Rules and
regulations.

Every parent or guardian agrees to these when they sign the waiver. They are short on purpose. Most of them exist because of something that has happened in a gym somewhere, to somebody's kid.

The short version

Say something before it hurts, not after

Nearly every rule below is a version of the same idea. Tell your instructor what is going on with your body before the session starts, stop when something hurts, and ask before you attempt a movement you have not been taught.

Young athletes are conditioned to push through. In a competitive season that instinct is useful. In a weight room, on a movement they have done wrong four times already, it is how a small problem becomes a lost season.

Nobody here is impressed by an athlete who trains hurt.

How we train

Sessions are coached, not supervised. That means an instructor is watching every rep and will stop one that is going wrong. It also means the athlete's job is to listen and ask, not to guess.

Phones go in bags. Not because we are strict about phones, but because an athlete under a loaded bar needs the person next to them paying attention.

During a session

Conduct

Everyone gets to train

This is a youth training environment. Athletes are held to it, and so are parents — on the floor, on the sideline, and in the parking lot.

Bradford Fitness may end a session, or a membership, for conduct that puts anyone at risk. That has rarely been necessary, and the standard is what keeps it that way.

Health and safety

Injuries, and coming back from them

Two of these are California law rather than house rules, and we follow them exactly.

Report every injury before you leave

However minor it seems. A tweak reported on the day is a note in your program. The same tweak reported three weeks later is a guess.

Suspected concussion means the day is over

Any athlete suspected of a concussion, head injury, or fainting is removed from training for the remainder of that day. No exceptions, no discussion, no "he says he's fine." This is required by California Health and Safety Code section 124235.

Returning needs written clearance

An athlete cannot return to training until a licensed health care provider gives written clearance. If a concussion was diagnosed, the return is graduated over at least seven days under that provider's supervision. Details and the information sheet every family signs are on the concussion and cardiac safety page.

Cancelling or missing a session

Give us 24 hours and it costs you nothing. Cancel a session with at least 24 hours' notice — email carl@bradfordfit.com or text (909) 660-3153 — and it is not charged. You can make it up within the same calendar month whenever there is space in a comparable session.

Under 24 hours, or not showing up, uses the session. That slot was held for your athlete and cannot be filled that late. This is the only way a small schedule stays workable for everyone in it.

Illness and real emergencies are handled case by case. Do not bring a sick or injured athlete in to avoid a charge — tell us what happened and we will sort it out. We would rather be told the truth late than have a sick kid on the floor.

If we cancel, you never lose the session. If Carl cancels for weather, facility closure, illness or anything else on our end, the session is made up or credited in full. That is our obligation, not a favor.

The 12-week Accelerator works differently

The rules above are written for the month-to-month memberships. The Performance Accelerator is a fixed term bought as a whole, so three things change:

Make-ups are wider, not narrower. Miss a session for a game and your athlete comes to any other Accelerator session that week with space — not "within the same calendar month". There are no private make-ups.

Make-ups end when the term ends. Nothing carries past the last day of your athlete's term: December 18 for grades 2–8, December 19 for grades 9–12.

Refunds stop once it starts. Full refund any time before the first session. After the program begins the enrolment is committed and no refund is given, because the group size and the twelve-week plan are built around who is in the room.

If we cancel, the obligation above still stands. If Carl cancels an Accelerator session, it is made up in another session inside the term — and if the term is too far along for that to be possible, that session is credited. Our cancellation is never the athlete's loss.

Insurance

Bradford Fitness LLC carries general liability insurance. A certificate is available on request, and is provided to every school and district we work with.
